Heerema Fabrication Group Completes First Jacket for Hornsea 3 Offshore Wind Farm

Heerema Fabrication Group (HFG) has completed the first of two jacket substructures for Ørsted’s Hornsea 3 Offshore Wind Farm. This first jacket, Link 01, stands 54 meters tall and will support one of the project’s Offshore Converter Stations (OCS) and represents an important milestone for both HFG and the wider Hornsea 3 project.

HFG was selected in 2022 by Aibel to design and fabricate both jackets for the OCS platforms. At the Vlissingen yard, teams from across the organization collaborated on the full project scope - starting from design in 2023 to fabrication, coating and final outfitting - making full use of the yard’s production facilities.

From the yard to the sea

Link 01 was loaded out on Wednesday, 11 March, and was towed to the SSCV Sleipnir by the Kolga, both operated by Heerema Marine Contractors, on Wednesday, 18 March, after which installation could start.

Meanwhile, work on the second jacket, Link 02, is progressing well and is scheduled for completion in August 2026.

“Seeing Link 01 head out to sea is a proud moment for everyone involved,” said Richard Spronk, CEO of Heerema Fabrication Group. “It’s a great achievement for the team and a strong start to our contribution to Hornsea 3. We’re now focused on delivering Link 02 later this year.”

About Hornsea 3

Hornsea 3, located 120 km off the Norfolk coast, is an £8.5 billion project that will deliver enough green electricity to power more than 3 million UK homes. Nearly 550 km of array cables will connect the wind turbines to two OCS platforms, where power is converted from AC to DC for efficient transmission to shore.
