Heerema Marine Contractors Secures Three Large-Scale Decommissioning Projects in the UK North Sea

Heerema Marine Contractors, in a consortium with AF Offshore Decom, has been awarded three contracts by a North Sea operator for the engineering, preparation, removal, and disposal (EPRD) of three platforms in the UK North Sea, with a combined weight of more than 120,000 tonnes.

The platforms will then be removed in a multi-year offshore campaign using Heerema's unique heavy-lift fleet and transported to AF Environmental Base Vats for onshore dismantling, recycling and disposal. The projects are expected to be completed within the next decade.

The award further re-confirms Heerema’s outstanding position as a trusted decommissioning partner in the North Sea, reflecting nearly three decades of experience in helping operators safely and responsibly retire offshore energy infrastructure.

"Being selected for these three large projects is a significant recognition of the capabilities and skill we have built in responsibly decommissioning over nearly three decades," said Marcel de Nooijer, CEO of Heerema Marine Contractors. "Together, these assets represent one of the largest decommissioning scopes currently planned in the North Sea. We look forward to working alongside our client and consortium partner AF Offshore Decom to safely prepare, remove and recycle these facilities. The UK North Sea is currently the world's most active decommissioning market, and we are proud to support our clients in delivering safe, efficient and environmentally responsible solutions."
