Can you install monopiles using a jack-up vessel and a noise mitigation system?

Challenge

Our client needed an investigation into the feasibility of installing monopiles using a jack-up vessel and a noise mitigation system.

Actions

We modelled and analysed the dynamic behaviour of this installation process using OrcaFlex along with its Python API.

Benefits

Time domain analyses were performed for the four stages of the monopile installation process. The parametric set-up of the model allowed for the analysis of multiple variations of the model and enabled us to investigate every aspect of the installation process for various environmental conditions. The influence of key parameters such as soil conditions, deck load and interface stiffness on the strength of the JU and motions of the system was investigated.
