Two of a kind

Bylgia and Kolga are our two anchor handling tugs, suited for long-distance towing, anchoring, and mooring.

The vessels hit the seas in 2013, and have bollard pulls of 200 and 212 tonnes respectively. They are equipped for worldwide operations and are capable of withstanding rough sea conditions.

Withstanding rough sea conditions

Both Bylgia and Kolga are powered by a quartet of MaK 6M32C engines each producing 3,000kW at 600 rpm.

The propulsion system includes a pair of controllable-pitch propellers and a tunnel thruster fore and aft. In addition, the tugs are equipped with a retractable bow thruster and have DP2 capabilities.

Heerema's tug history

Heerema has a long history with its own tug boats to support barge tow and mooring activities and to assist with anchoring the crane vessels. We had the Frigg, Freya, Njord, Laga, Husky, and the Retriever.

Bylgia and Kolga were designed to replace but also improve on our previous tugs by introducing unique capabilities like the big bunker capacity for long-distance sailing and dynamic positioning.
